About Bill Wood

From the time Bill Wood was old enough to understand words, he learned about the importance of public education.  Bills mother had a plaque on her dresser that said, “If you think education is expensive, don’t try ignorance.  Support public schools.”  She retired after 25 years as a public school administrator and promptly became a school board member for 20 years.  Bill himself attended public schools from grades K-12, during which time caring teachers helped him overcome a learning disability and encouraged him to expand his academic interests.  Hacted, danced, played trombone in the band and orchestra, ran cross country, played soccer and participated in debate.  He went on to earn a degree from Northwestern University.  Any successes he has enjoyed he attributes to the many academic and extra-curricular opportunities public schools provided.  He believes a quality public education must be available to all citizens for our democracy and our economy to be healthy.

Bill has spent his entire career working in education.  For 30 years he has been a teaching artist, presenter of educational assembly programs, workshop leader for students and teachers, and keynote speaker on educational topics. He has worked in hundreds of schools across the country.  He has learned from and been inspired by the many amazing teachers he has observed and collaborated with.  He has also worked for 25 years as a facilitator of team building programs with youth, college and corporate teamsfostering the social-emotional skills of positive risk taking, cooperation, collaboration and communication. He conducts professional development that help educators to develop those same skills with their students.

Bill served on the board of the Avon Grove Charter School in 2011 and 2012, and has been a member of the board of AGSD since 2016. He has also served his community as an English language tutor, a mentor for youth through Connecting Generationsworking in a residential therapy program for abused children and with incarcerated teens.  Bill has spent his entire adult life with the singular focus of helping young people grow, thrive and pursue their dreams. He is again asking for the support of the community to continue to pursue his passionate dedication to excellence in the Avon Grove schools by voting to re-elect him to the board of directors.

Let’s keep building the future together!

During his time on the board, Bill has consistently demonstrated his ability to:
